Food Day @ETH Workshops
The event will kick off with workshops in the afternoon, focusing on topics including grassland use, nutrition, and science policy.
Unlocking the Potential of Precision Nutrition
02 November 2023
14:30 – 16:30 CET
Main Building, ETH Zurich
For researchers, industry, start-ups & investors with expert knowledge or interest inprecisionn nutrition.
Precision nutrition incorporates rigorous scientific data on biological and environmental factors and their complex interactions to optimize individuals' nutrient exposures and optimal health. The advantages of precision nutrition are evident, and it can be used to develop accessible, affordable, desirable, targeted, and well-informed nutritional interventions and recommendations. In parallel, bold action is crucial to address the current global challenges in food and nutrition, including malnutrition and non-communicable chronic diseases, especially in light of population expansion and the impact of climate change. In this context, precision nutrition emerges as a promising approach within the field of public health.
During the interactive workshop, participants will have the opportunity to share their perspectives and engage in discussions with experts. By addressing pressing questions, the workshop aims to foster collaboration, generate innovative ideas, and drive progress in the field of precision nutrition for the betterment of public health.

Best Practices for the Science-Policy Interface
02 November 2023
14:30 – 16:30 CET
Main Building, ETH Zurich
For scientists and young researchers interested in translating their research into policy.
ETH Zurich is committed to providing scientific expertise concerning societal challenges at the local, regional, and global level. However, providing this expertise at a policy-making level is not without its hurdles, as exemplified during the Covid-19 pandemic. This workshop will provide an overview of the science-for-policy approach of the ETH Science-Policy Interface as well as offer food for thought on best practices to engage in the science-policy dialogue.
Speakers:
Robin Vital, Project Manager Science Policy-Interface
Cédric Bolli, Programme Manager Science & Policy

More than Cheese: Multifunctional Grasslands for Ecosystem Services
02 November 2023
14:30 – 16:30 CET
Main Building, ETH Zurich
For researchers, policymakers, educators, practitioners and students interested in grassland systems.
Besides their importance for food production, Swiss grasslands provide us with many crucial ecosystem services such as carbon storage, biodiversity and landscape aesthetics. Yet, how can we make sure these services are all delivered at a high level?
At this workshop, we will learn from researchers and practitioners such as farmers about different options to sustain and enhance ecosystem services and grassland multifunctionality. We will then discuss how policy-makers and practitioners can support grassland multifunctionality in Switzerland for a sustainable future.
