Greenhouse Gas Emissions of Dairy Production Systems based on Longevity and Zero-Concentrate Strategy as Compared to Conventional Systems (Long Life Cow)

Long Life Cow project

Project Start: 2012

Principal Investigator: Prof. Michael Kreuzer, Animal Nutrition Group

Fighting the other greenhouse gas

Many dairy production systems focus on high-yielding cows, and less on longevity and lifetime productivity. This project aims to compare this high-yield strategy to a longevity approach that reduces the need for feed concentrates and extends the productive life of cows by several years, with a focus on both environmental aspects and economic performance.
