Zweinutzungsrasse ist im Vorteil
Results from the INDUCE project are highlighted in die grüne. The article reports on the advantage of dual purpose chicken compared to breeds especially for egg or meat production.

The article highlights an extensive project on dual purpose chicken that the Animal Nutrition Group is conducting, including the INDUCE project. Not unexpectedly, broiler type breeds grew faster than egg laying breeds. However, the dual purpose breed performed better than expected and produced carcasses that resembled the broiler type much more than the egg laying type. Research also showed that dual purpose chicken grow equally well on feed with a decreased proportion of protein compared to the specialized breeds.
The article proposes that a 20% higher price for dual purpose chicken compared to broiler type chicken would be sufficient to cover additional costs and Sabine Müller, PhD student in the Animal Nutrition Group, concludes that dual purpose chicken are an interesting option, especially for organic agriculture.
