Globo Uovo: The egg as a symbol of origin and food
At the closing ceremony of the Globo Uovo exhibit at the Centre Dürrenmatt Neuchâtel, Dr. Martijn Sonnevelt contributes to the panel discussion on origin and food.

At the Centre Dürrenmatt Neuchâtel, a closing ceremony on 14 April marked the end of the display of the Globo Uovo. The large egg sculpture was a symbol for the genesis of every life, according to the artist Marc Reist. The openings in the sculpture follow the lines of longitude and latitude of the Earth, and it symbolizes both a cage and a nest in which life resides.
At the closing ceremony in Neuchâtel entitled “The egg as a symbol of origin and food,” these ideas were linked to the world food system and responsible use of resources. WFSC Executive Director Dr. Martijn Sonnevelt took part in a panel discussion at the event, along with Swiss Chef Anton Mosimann and author Hansjörg Hinrichs. Martijn addressed some the main challenges of global food systems and ways in which each one of us can contribute to more sustainable production and consumption.
We thank the Centre Dürrenmatt Neuchâtel for inviting us to join in this event.
The sculpture now moves to the Bad Ragaz Triennal Festival: external page http://www.badragartz.ch/
