Fair Chocolate 4All: The game
At the Fair Chocolate 4All workshop, Scientifica visitors could play a board game to learn more about how cocoa goes from the farmer’s tree to become a bar of chocolate. An upcoming teacher workshop aims to bring the game into Swiss classrooms.
Have you ever wondered where the cocoa for your favorite chocolate is grown? And at the same time reflect on how does our decision of what chocolate to buy affects the livelihoods of those growing the main ingredient of your sweet treat?
At Scientifica, the World Food System Center presented a workshop to share more about how cocoa goes from the farmer’s tree to become a bar of chocolate. Visitors played a board game that allows each player to take on the role of various players along this journey: the farmer, merchant, processor, and retailer. Decisions each player made had multiple effects on others as well as sustainability. The game ended with a discussion about how we, as consumers, can make a small contribution to sustainable food systems.
