Delicious Diversity
A multidisciplinary project, led by researchers at ETH Zurich, explored how organic bean production in North Macedonia can be optimized. Akanksha Singh presents findings from the project in a new video.
Beans are widely grown and consumed in North Macedonia. But they are often farmed in monocultures, which creates with many issues, like degraded soils or leaving farmers vulnerable to market and climate shocks. Researchers from ETH Zurich worked with local farmers, agronomists, and universities to explore new ways to sustainably improve bean production. The new video highlights their main findings and presents opportunities for farmers and government to take action.
The project entitled Sustainable intensification through agroecosystem diversification: optimizing organic bean production in North Macedonia was funded through World Food System Center Sustainability in Food Value Chains Research Program.
