BMEL Delegation visits ETH
ETH Zurich hosted a delegation from the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) for a dialogue on research and applications in agroecology and the social dimension of food systems transformation.

On 3 April 2025, ETH Zurich welcomed representatives from the BMEL to discuss the role of labor and agroecology in shaping sustainable food systems.
The visit, led by Bernd Schwang, BMEL Commissioner for the Right to Food, and co-hosted by Eva-Marie Meemken (Food Systems Economics and Policy) and Martijn Sonnevelt, Director of the World Food Systems Center, facilitated a collaborative exchange.
Presentations by Johanna Jacobi (Agroecological Transitions) and Robert Finger (Agricultural Economics and Policy) focused on the right to food and the science-policy interface within food systems, respectively.
Martina Occelli, visiting scholar from Cornell University, further enriched to the day by presenting her work on participatory research in crop improvement during a dedicated brownbag session.

The visit provided a platform for valuable dialogue. We were glad to have the delegation on campus and look forward to further conversation and potential collaboration on these important topics.
