Transforming Food Systems through Agroecology

The Science Days for the UN Food Systems Summit 2021 take place on 08 and 09 July. The Center will participate in the side event Transforming Food Systems through Agroecology: Learning from Evidence.

In the lead up to the United Nations Food Systems Summit this September, the upcoming Science Days aim to support the agenda setting process with scientific evidence and perspectives. The days are organized by the Scientific Group of the UN Food Systems Summit 2021 and facilitated and hosted by FAO.

At side events from 05-07 July, individual partners will present insights on science, technologies, and innovations that can drive food systems transformation. To this end, the Swiss national FAO Committee (CNS-FAO), Bioversity International-CIAT Alliance, Institute for Research and Promotion of Alternatives in Development (IRPAD), World Food Forum (Youth Group), Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Institut du développement durable et des relations internationales (IDDRI), and the World Food System Center will be convening the event “Transforming Food Systems through Agroecology: Learning from Evidence.”

Agroecology is a bundle of measures taken by farmers which mobilize biodiversity and ecosystem services for productivity. Potential pathways and changes in framework conditions to foster diversity in knowledge systems, ecosystems, and nutrition to allow for a sustainable food systems transformation will be discussed at this webinar.
