Tackling World Food System Challenges: Across Disciplines, Sectors, and Scales

The world food system is facing unprecedented challenges in its ability to feed a growing global population that is expected to approach 9 billion by 2050. There is an urgent need for viable solutions, and the scope of the challenges requires collaborative efforts more than ever.

The ETH Zurich World Food System organized this conference to bring together leading scientists, junior researchers, and stakeholders from around the world to exchange ideas, methodologies, success stories, and lessons learned and to discuss new approaches to how we can feed the world in a way that considers human health, the environment, and social well-being.

This international conference, which took place from 21-26 June 2015 at the Congressi Stefano Franscini (ETH Zurich's conference center at Monte Verità) in Ascona, Switzerland, highlighted solution-focused, interdisciplinary, and system-oriented research and practice.

More than 100 participants from 24 countries and 57 institutions attended.

Support

The conference was made possible thanks to the kind support of many organizations and individuals. We are especially grateful for the generous financial support from the Congressi Stefano Franscini, the Swiss Scientific Research Foundation, the ETH Zurich Foundation, and our partners the Mercator Foundation Switzerland and Bühler.

This support enabled us to put on a truly professional event featuring exceptional contributions from world-renowned experts. It also enabled us to offer several full scholarships to researchers who would have otherwise been unable to attend. Additional support from our partner Coop provided conference T-Shirts that each attendee received.
